Fairfax Residents: Two Important High Density Development Meetings This Week
Dear Fairfax Residents and Friends:
I want to make sure you are aware of two important public meetings this week concerning proposed development and zoning changes that could significantly shape Fairfax for years to come.
Your input matters, and now is the time to participate.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 — FAIRFAX CIRCLE | 4:00 PM, City Hall Council Chambers
The City Council will discuss the proposed Circle Gateway project, including an 11-story building at Fairfax Circle. This is one of several major redevelopment proposals expected in areas covered by the City's Small Area Plans.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 — SMALL AREA PLAN ZONING OPEN HOUSE

The City will present proposed zoning amendments for Fairfax Circle, Kamp Washington, and Old Town/Northfax. Residents can review the changes, speak with city staff, ask questions, and provide comments.
WHY THIS MATTERS
The City's Small Area Plans contemplate approximately 4,700 additional housing units.
Fairfax currently has about 10,604 households. Adding 4,700 units would increase the housing stock by roughly 44%.
With approximately 26,772 residents, 4,700 additional occupied homes could mean roughly 12,690 more residents at an average of 2.7 residents per household.
This would represent a significant acceleration of the City's recent population growth.
These numbers do not determine whether individual projects are good or bad. But they show why decisions about building height, density, transportation, schools, infrastructure, taxes, parks, public services, and quality of life deserve careful consideration and meaningful public participation.
NOW IS THE TIME TO PARTICIPATE.
The September 2 open house is an opportunity to review the proposed zoning standards and provide input before formal Planning Commission and City Council public hearings later this fall.
